HEIDI'S STORY
My names Heidi, and I live in Nottingham in the UK, with husband Phil and our two cats, Tilly and Gizy.
I have always stitched, either by hand or machine, from dolls clothes when I was very young, to my own clothes in my teens and twenties. I studied textiles and art through school and went on to study Costume at Art College, where I learnt how to pattern cut and make wonderful period costume. I loved the big dresses, with corsets and huge underskirts, and great hats! While at college, filming was taking place for Gwyneth Paltrows’ Emma, and I got chance to do some hand embroidered accessories for a close up seen!
My working life has always been, and still is, within the sewing & textiles trade, from fashion pattern cutting, designing and now I work for a domestic machine company on the sales side.
After planning our wedding a few years ago, I rekindled my love of free machine embroidery when I made my own stitched tiara and fascinators for my Mum and Bridesmaids. I also made all the wedding stationery and embroidered napkins for the wedding breakfast.
I loved all the making so much, that I have now taken it a step further and set up my little business, and when I’m not working... I’m stitching! I have designed a range of vintage style wedding accessories, from personalized silk lavender bags and wedding pillows, to personalised hankies and vintage lace garters.
I have also created a range of fascinators, combining my addiction to embroidery and my love of costume and the vintage look. The flowers for the fascinators are all handmade, and each petal is embroidered individually before being stitched together with crystals and wire. The fascinator bases are hand blocked to traditional millinery techniques. Many of the pieces are one off, but some styles can be made in your own colour way to match your outfit perfectly.

Hi Heidi!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your wonderful info you put together for this blog! I now know what a "fascinator" is! I have never heard of that word before; I guess you really do learn something everyday! Cheers!
